(4) Pricing 
Prices shown on the web site are those ruling in Mauritius Island and indicative only and may be changed without prior notice. The ruling price of a product either in Mauritius or Rodrigues may be ascertained either through an official quotation or on inspection of the respective price tag in one of our showrooms.

All prices will be quoted in Mauritius Rupees and are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) at the ruling rate for purchases to be delivered in the Mauritian territory. A completely duty free price will be quoted for foreign buyers who enter into a purchase transaction outside of Mauritius. Foreign buyers purchasing in Mauritius will be reimbursed the Value Added Tax on their purchase upon departure from Mauritius, subject to certain formalities being completed and a minimum purchase value as mentioned on the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry's website at the following address: http://www.taxfreeshopping.mu/en/vat-refund.aspx.

(5) Payment Methods
We accept Cash, Debit Cards, Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards.
Cash, Debit and Credit card payments are taken at point of purchase in our stores, or using POS on delivery.
We also accept payment before delivery of the goods via Internet Banking services and bank transfers from both local and overseas buyers.

Credit facilities in terms of Hire Purchase are offered to qualified Mauritian Nationals residing in Mauritius and Rodrigues. These facilities are subject to acceptance. Any applicant willing to buy on credit may fill in the appropriate application form provided online under the Credit Facilities tag and submit the required documents. He will subsequently be required to call in person in one of our sales outlets with the originals of his supporting documents for the finalisation of the necessary formalities.

(6) Email 
We aim to answer to all emails within twenty-four hours. Delays may, however, arise because of circumstances beyond our control. 

(7) Delivery Rates
Delivery in Mauritius for orders of Rs. 1,500 and over is made free of charge except for those products requiring special transport arrangements and manpower. In such circumstances, a proper quotation will be given to the customer. 

A transport fee of Rs. 150 is charged for deliveries of purchases under Rs. 1,500. 

Transport costs (local carriage, ocean and air freight) and insurance are payable by the purchaser when an export from Mauritius is involved. 

(8) Delivery Schedule 
The standard delivery time scale in Mauritius and Rodrigues on all in-stock products is 2-3 working days. Products on export will depend on the mode of transport chosen, on the availability of carriers and may take between 4 to 15 days or even more. Out of stock items are subject to the delay in sourcing from the manufacturers and this will be indicated to the purchaser upon confirmation of his/her order. 

Products are delivered either by J Kalachand & Co. Ltd, or by one of our logistics partners, in the case of goods exported. 

In either case, you will be informed of the expected delivery date. 

Goods must be signed for on delivery. They cannot be left with neighbours, in garages or at the back door etc. Buyers or addressees in Mauritius and Rodrigues must show to the delivery personnel, a proof of their identity and/or the original of the invoice of goods purchased. 

Customers are expected to take delivery on the date it has been agreed. Failure to do so may incur additional charges. 

Delivery outside of Mauritius and Rodrigues by courier or otherwise does not include unpacking, special packing for safe transportation by either sea or air or installation. We strongly advise that you keep the original packing for all products in case you need to request for service or if you need to move. 

(9) Delivery Timeslots 
We do not offer a precisely timed delivery service, due to potential delays enroute. Deliveries are generally effected between 9:00am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, 9.00am to 13.00pm on Saturdays in Mauritius and Rodrigues.

Please note that we shall not be liable for any losses, costs, damages, charges or expenses caused by any delay in delivering goods. 

(10) Delivery Address 
For purchases paid for by cash, by bank transfer, internet banking, credit or debit cards, we deliver products to the address provided by the purchaser.

In the case of purchases made on credit, we normally deliver the goods at the personal address of the purchaser as evidenced by the documents submitted by him/her to support his/her credit application. Delivery to another address is subject to our Management's approval. 

(11) Damage in Transit 
In the case of goods exported from Mauritius, our Company declines all responsibility on any damages that may be sustained by the goods while in transit. 

For goods delivered in Mauritius and in Rodrigues, the purchaser is strongly recommended to examine closely the goods being delivered as no claim will be considered by our Company once he has signed receipt of the goods in good condition. 

It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that what they are signing for is indeed being delivered. 

(12) Returns 
No Fault Items:
We regret not being able to accept back goods once sold and received in good condition. 

Faulty Items: 
Products delivered which are 'faulty' or 'dead on arrival' should be notified within 2 days from the delivery date. We will arrange the pickup of goods. Upon receipt of the goods and confirmation of the fault you will be offered a replacement, a repair or full refund, provided the item is complete with all accessories and instruction manual and in its original box and packaging.

If the product is not deemed faulty, the goods will be returned to you. You will in such cases be liable pickup and return delivery charges.

(13) Warranty Conditions

Warranty covers the original purchaser of the appliance/product and is not transferable. 

Terms of warranty are valid for all sets purchased solely from any of our J Kalachand showrooms in Mauritius and Rodrigues or via jkalachand.com .  


Under the warranty J Kalachand & Co Ltd. guarantees the appliance/product purchased against faulty workmanship or material only for the period specified on the invoice as from date of purchase.

A) Motorcycles :
24,000 kms or twenty-four (24) months whichever happens earlier

B) Outboard Engines, Irrigation Water Pumps, Generators, Lawn Mowers: 
a) CDI Unit and Electrical parts only: 1 year
b) Engine parts and OBM Gear Box: 6 months 

C) Chainsaws, Bush Cutters - 3 months 

D) Office Automation Products: 

The warranty does not apply to:
a) Computers/ Laptops: Disk drive heads, keyboards, switches, machines affected by viruses, pointing devices e.g. mouse, back up batteries, speakers, software problems, customers' data on hard disks
b) Cash registers & Calculators: paper rolls, ink rolls, print heads
c) Facsimile Machines: Paper rolls, ink rolls, print heads
d) Paper Shredders: Blades 
e) Photocopiers/Laser printers/Multi Function Centres: Drums, developers, toner, developing units, coronas, all lamps, fuser rollers, heat rollers
f) Printers: Printer heads, printer ribbons, ink cartridges
g) Telephones: Keyboard & Batteries (if over-discharged), damages caused by water or any other liquid
h) UPS/Laptop Computers: Batteries (if over-discharged)
i) Data/Video projectors: Lamps 

E) Refrigerator/Freezers/Wine Cellars: 
Sealed Cabinets & Thermostats: 1 year
Compressors only: Freezers & Wine Cellars - 5 years; Refrigerators - 10 years
Contents of these appliances such as foodstuffs, drinks, wine, medicines - No guarantee 

F) Air Conditioners:
Compressor only: 3 years 
Servicing fees are chargeable during guarantee period. 

G) Mobile Phones/Laptops 
Mobile Phones: Battery - 6 months; Electronics - 1 year

Laptops: Battery - 1 year;  Charger - 1 year.

No cover for damages caused by water or any other liquid. 

H) Fitness Equipment

Mechanical parts - six months; Electronics - one year 

This warranty does not apply to: 
a) V-Belts
b) Running Belt
c) Running boards
d) Running belts
e) Cables
f) Pulleys and other parts which are subject to typical wear & tear

I) Furniture 
On structure only 

J) Watches: 
Warranty on movement parts only; 6 months on batteries 

K) Electrical/Electronic Products 
The warranty does not apply to: 
a) Record Player Styli, recording heads, video heads, remote controllers, loudspeakers, microphones, shaver foils, blades, bulbs, chargers, adaptors and attachments such as mixer blades and graters or any part of the appliance/product subject to heavy strain. 
b) Headphones 


(14) Maintenance Agreement

In case of office automation products, fitness equipment and air conditioners the purchaser residing in Mauritius is invited to enter into a maintenance agreement with J Kalachand & Co Ltd when the warranty lapses. 

Under the warranty J Kalachand & Co Ltd. guarantees the appliance/product purchased against faulty workmanship or material only for the period specified on the invoice as from date of purchase.

(15) During the warranty period:
I) The servicing of the appliance/product will be carried out at a place most suitable and convenient to the Company.
II) All transport costs will be chargeable to the purchaser. 
III) The Company will repair or, at its option, replace any defective part of the appliance/product. 
IV) The Company shall not be responsible for any loss and/or damage caused as a result of the appliance's/product's malfunction. 
V) The Company reserves the right to change, at its discretion, any appliance/product or part of an appliance/product sent for servicing/repairs for a like article of approximate date of manufacture. 

(16) During the warranty period, no claims will be considered if:
I) The sales invoice cum warranty document is not produced. 
II) Any unauthorised person has repaired or tried to repair the appliance/product. 
III) Any unauthorised alteration or modification is made to the appliance/product. 
IV) The serial number of the appliance/product has been removed, defaced or altered. 
V) The appliance/product has not been installed, used or maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions booklet. 
VI) The purchaser has not adhered to payment terms agreed and has not paid instalments regularly as they become due. 
VII) The appliance has been used on a supply voltage other than that specified. 
VIII) Sets are damaged by external factors such as lightning, water ingress, humidity, sweat, excessive heat or cold, cockroaches, rats, ants and other pests, voltage surge, natural calamities, accidents, misuse, corrosion by salty air etc. 
IX) Damaged parts are those that are subject to wear & tear. 

(17) Service
We suggest the first action when dealing with a possible fault is to consult the instruction manual supplied with the product.

Products covered by warranty will be repaired as per the terms of the warranty. In Mauritius and Rodrigues, our technicians may call on the customer for service and repair, if needed. For overseas customers, service may be given provided the sets are sent to our Workshop at the following address:

For products that are deemed not to be faulty, the customer will be charged an inspection fee together with all transport and allied costs. In the case of faulty products, they will be repaired and returned to the customer after payment of all labour and transport charges.
